The holiday of Ufa Godmother Icon was celebrated in the capital RB

The adherents of the Russian Orthodox Church celebrated the day of Ufa Godmother Icon yesterday. This holiday, being centuries-old, is closely concerned with the legend concerning the appearance of this icon in 1621 near the village Bogorodskoe, where one of Ufa microdistricts is located now. The Godmother-Ufa Cathedral was erected here later. After the revolution the cathedral had been destroyed and restored at the end of the XX century.

At present time the Godmother-Ufa Cathedral is considered the second church of Ufa eparchy. Its capital reconstruction started in January 2008. The works had to be completed in two years but the crisis impeded these plans. That’s why the scaffold still stands in the church.
