The Day of Sea and River Fleet Workers is celebrated in Russia today. On this occasion, the President of Bashkortostan Murtaza Rakhimov congratulated workers and veterans of river fleet of the Republic with their professional holiday. He said in particular:

"Water transport is an important component of transport complex of the Republic. Workers of river fleet make great contribution to the development of economy and social sphere, passenger transportation, tourist activity, extension of trade and economic cooperation between Bashkortostan and Russian regions, and foreign countries as well.

Your knowledge and experience provide the development of water transport as a strategic sphere of economy. Under complex conditions, you cope with responsible tasks, delivering to places of destination thousands of passengers, hundred thousand tons of goods every year and extracting aggregates.

The activity of a sphere and improvement of its production basis is impossible without highly skilled personnel. To be a fleet worker today means to preserve carefully and multiply traditions, constantly improve professional skill. Captains and mates, mechanics and motor operators, sailors and cooks, skippers and repairers, shore service workers are reliable in keeping their daily watch. Your splendid traditions and professional dynasties are widely known.

In the current year of the 65th anniversary of the Victory, we pay tribute to river transport workers, who participated in the Great Patriotic War, fought on the fronts or worked on the home front, restored and strengthened the sphere in the post-war years.

River fleet workers pay an important role now in development of construction and road industries, work in other regions of the country. I am sure that owing to complete professionalism, experience and responsibility, crews of the ships, fleet specialists and shore service workers will keep contributing much to social and economic development of Bashkortostan and Russia.
