European Immunization Week starts in Bashkortostan

The European Immunization Week will be held in Russia from April 26 to May 1 and Republic of Bashkortostan in the staff of Russian Federation takes part in it already for the fifth time. As the head of the Russian Agency for Health and Consumer Rights’ epidemiologic supervision dept RB Zukhra Dayanova reported at today’s news-conference in “Bashinform”, this annual wide-scaled action is held in all countries of Europe and in all regions of Russia upon the initiative of the World Health Organization.

“Its necessity is indisputable” – she said – “Because every citizens has to know what infections he is protected against”.

As she said, the main aim of the European Immunization Week is the rise of the level of the coverage of children and adults with the vaccinations though better knowledge of population, public communities, medical employees and authority about the necessity of protection against infectious diseases and about the right of every person for such protection.

“Mass population vaccination is one of those rare services, which costs not much but at that gives great advantages for health and well-being of the whole population” – the chief infectiologist of the Ministry of health protection RB Damir Valishin said – “We are quite certain that modern vaccination helps to avoid the spreading of many diseases. Thus, thanks to vaccination we’ve managed to hold the rise of hepatitis A sickness rate up in Ufa in 2009”.

The medics say before introduction of the planned immunizations the infectious diseases were the main reason of the infant death rate all over the world. Today Russia positions itself as the country, which has defeated the measles; the sickness rate with red measles and tetanus is practically brought to nothing.

As for Bashkortostan, the sickness rate with red measles has dropped five times, hepatitis B – 2,9 times, epidemic parotitis – 5,7 times and no cases of poliomyelitis, diphtheria and measles were registered in the Republic for the last several years. The last case of tetanus was registered in Bashkortostan in 2005.
