7764 HIV-infected are registered in the AIDS Struggle Center RB

7764 HIV-infected are registered in the Republican AIDS Struggle Center. The number of the men, infected with HIV exceeds the number of the infected women almost two times: 4870 and 2894 correspondingly. The Ministry of health protection RB reports the number of HIV-infected among urban population makes up 4405 people or 56,7%, among rural population – 2292people or 29,5%, 1010 HIV-infected people are found n the Republican prisons and 57 people are hobos.

Development of AIDS epidemic is supported due to spreading of drug addiction and parenteral way of infection still remains the main one. 132 people have been infected through sex in 2010, the medics report.

The index of sickness rate – the number of infected per 100 thousand people – made up 191,4 in the Republic. This index is much lower than in Volga federal district (352,5) and in Russia in a whole (340,3).
