Days of Udmurt language and culture are open in Neftekamsk

The Days of Udmurt language and culture are held in the town of Neftekamsk. The Days of national cultures have become a good tradition in this town and every year these national festivals are held by four national-cultural centers: Bashkir, Tatar, Russian and Mari. One more national-cultural center – the Udmurt one – appeared in the town this year. The Days of Udmurt language and culture are the first large public action of the center, headed by Tatiana Glimzyanova, aimed at popularization of the original Udmurt culture. According to the all-Russian population cencus-2002 about 1500 Udmurts live in the town. The Days’ program includes the arts and crafts exhibition “The native expanses”, the festival “National Udmurt cookery”, the seminar “The first representatives of Udmurts in Republic of Bashkortostan and their role in preservation of Udmurt aboriginal culture”, the skiing competition for the prize of the international master of sport Valerie Gareishin and other arrangements.
The Days of Udmurt culture and language will last till the end of March.
According to the latest all-Russian population census-2002 more than 22,5 thousand Udmurts inhabit Republic of Bashkortostan-3,6% of the overall Udmurt population in Russia.
