Solar eclipse is expected on January 15

According to Tamara Denisova, the chief methodologist of Ufa planetarium, the year 2010 is not rich in astronomic events. "Two eclipses are expected only at the beginning of the year," she said. "The lunar eclipse has already taken place on New Year's eve. If the weather is favourable, residents of Bashkortostan will be able to observe another eclipse on January 15. This will be a partial solar eclipse. It will start at 12.09 Ufa time and reach its maximum phase at 12.26. The eclipse will end at 12.26."

The next lunar eclipse with the Moon occulting more than half the Sun will happen on 4 January 2011.
