New Turkish banknotes and Bashkortostan

The currency reform has occurred in Turkey at the beginning of 2009: the “Turkish lire” were put into circulation instead of the “new Turkish lire”. The portrait of the Turkish Republic’s founder Kemal Ataturk stands on the face of all banknotes and the images of outstanding Turkish activists, mainly the activists of science and culture, and the subjects, demonstrating the sphere of their activity, appeared on the back side of the banknotes. The people, related to Bashkortostan, are portrayed on two Turkish banknotes.

Thus, the Professor, Doctor Aidyn Saiyly (1913-1933) is portrayed on the smallest 5-lire note. He was one of the first Turkish doctors of science, having defended the history of science at Harvard University. He has shown the contribution of Turk nations to development of global civilizations. He is the uncle of Sarah Arydganly – the daughter of the Professor Isenbike Togan and the daughter-in-law of our famous compatriot and Orientalist Achmet-Zaki Validi Togan on the father’s side. He was also acquainted with the Bashkir scientist-emigrant Abdylkadir Inan.

The 20-lire note has the portrait of the architect Kemaleddin (1870-1927) – the founder of the Society of Osman architects and engineers. The building of the Gazi University’s administration, built up by his project in the city of Ankara is painted nearby and this University actively cooperates with Sterlitamac’s State Pedagogical Academy by Zainab Biisheva.
