Meat cattle-breeding is announced one of the state priorities
Development of meat cattle-breeding is becoming one of the state priorities. Russia imports 57% of consumed meat – about one million tons and the means, earned from meat sales in internal Russian markets, are meant for support of foreign agriculture – Brazilian, Australian etc.
Meat production means development of meat cattle-breeding first of all and in Russian livestock the share of meat cattle makes just 1,5% - this is the extremely low level. In developed counties the picture is quite opposite: the number of meat cows is at least the same as the number of milk ones. The ratio 1:1 is set in Europe and in America milk cows make just 20% of the livestock.
For analysis of the situation scientists use such index as the average weight of cattle. Per se this is the indicator of meat cattle-breeding development in any country. Thus, the cows of “limousine” breed are the favorites in the USA. The average carcass weight in the USA is the highest in the world – 349 kg. Europe stands on the second place with the index 317kg. Australia holds the third position (227) and Brazil is the fourth (207) but at the same time the volume of meat production in this country is so high that Brazil is considered the biggest meat producer in the world for today.
Russia stands too far from this leadership. The average carcass weight in our country is only 169kg and development of meat cattle-breeding is able to change this situation cardinally and the budget financing is aimed at that now.
The today’s seminar in Ufa is dedicated to the aspects of state support of meat cattle-breeding and to the main aspects of work with the meat livestock. The first two days of the seminar are theoretical and practical trainings will be held on the base of the leading pedigree farms RB during the next two days.
Opening the seminar the first deputy Prime-Minister of Government RB Shamil Vahitov told about measures of state aid for meat cattle-breeding and said they had to work up a joint plan of actions, which would take all nuances of this branch into account. The document has to be prepared by January 20.
