Epizootic situation on hydrophobia remains unfavorable

The epizootic hydrophobia situation in Bashkortostan remains unfavorable. 103 morbid events and fatalities of domestic animals from hydrophobia have been registered in the Republic in 2008. The cases of hydrophobia were registered in 102 settlements and in two cities of Bashkortostan. The deputy head of Russian Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision Agency in Bashkortostan Rishat Nutlimanov reports the growth of hydrophobia sickness rate is observed in 2009 – 244 morbid events were registered for nine months of this year.

Every year 6-20 fatalities from hydrophobia are registered in Russian Federation. The last human hydrophobia morbid event has been registered in Bashkortostan in 2004.

More than 12 thousand people sought medical antirabic help in 2008 in Bashkortostan and 9725 people – for nine months 2009.

“There is no the way to prevent hydrophobia morbid event in the world today except but the timely immunization of the victims and much money is allocated every year for these purposes but these expenses are always reasonable because the lethality in case of hydrophobia makes nearly 100%” – the deputy head of Russian Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision Agency in Bashkortostan Nasima Kuchinova reports.
