The USATU launched educational satellite

A carrier rocket "Soyuz 2" was launched from Baikonur on September 15 at 19.55 Moscow time. There was an educational and research micro-satellite UGATU-SAT on its board which was created in the student development laboratory "Infocosmos" of the Ufa State Aviation Technical University.
According to the press centre of the USATU, the best USATU students acquired the right to witness this grandiose event.
The first call signs of the satellite are already received in the Satellite data receiving and procession centre in the USATU. Within two years of the satellite's work data from the orbit, which are eagerly waited for in Bashkortostan, will be accumulated here.
The educational and research space laboratory founded within the framework of Innovative educational program of the USATU will help to solve many problems of environmental monitoring, to analyze mining operations, to carry out tracking of wild fires and oil outflows, pollution of territories, water floods.
The satellite data are vitally important in cartography. The point is that many objects are mapped incorrectly, and the difference between coordinates on topographic maps and pictures from the space amounts sometimes to several kilometers.
The satellite will inform in time about road accidents, which is important for such mega city as Ufa. Modern space technologies will help in modelling of situations connected with manmade disasters or acts of God owing to which there will be an opportunity of their timely prevention and liquidation.
In addition, the most important fact is that direct participants of the space program will be students of the USATU. During their studying and research work, they will be able to make use of unique facilities that the orbital laboratory offers.
