Putin signed law on counteracting extremist activities

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law improving the legal regulation of measures aimed at counteracting extremist activities. Now the organization can receive extremist status due to the sentence issued by the head, founder or participant for extremist activities.

The Federal Law was adopted by the State Duma on July 15, 2025 and approved by the Federation Council on July 16.

“The law clarifies the concept of“ extremist organization ”, which is also recognized as an extremist community on the basis of a conviction in a criminal case in relation to a person for creating such a community, leadership or participation in it. The activities of such a community will be subject to the prohibition, ”the state-owned administration notes.

At the same time, this extremist community will be included in the List of Organizations recognized as extremist.
