Deputies of the State Assembly of Bashkiria have amended the Code of Administrative Offenses of the republic, establishing fines for smoking hookah and nicotine-containing products in public places.
According to Konstantin Tolkachev, Chairman of the State Assembly of the Republic of Bashkiria, smoking in public places is punishable by a warning or a fine of 500 rubles, and for a repeat offense, 1,000 rubles.
“But these measures could only be applied to tobacco smoking. Today, other types of smoking are becoming increasingly popular, especially among young people: electronic cigarettes, vapes, and other heating devices. Their users, despite existing bans, can smoke with impunity almost anywhere, fumigating others. The adopted law equates the use of nicotine-containing products and hookah to tobacco products and extends existing types of punishment to them in the form of a warning or a fine,” he explained. After adoption, the law is sent to the Head of the Republic for signature and comes into force 10 days after its official publication.
