Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated residents of Ufa and Bashkortostan on the 450th anniversary of the founding of the republic's capital. The congratulations read:
"Such an impressive anniversary is a beautiful occasion to turn to the city's rich history and recall the names of your outstanding fellow countrymen who glorified Ufa with military victories, labor achievements, scientific and creative achievements, and sporting triumphs.
It is essential that, while preserving its distinctive appearance, the city is looking to the future. Its economy and social sphere are developing dynamically; modern high-tech industries are opening, and new schools, theaters, cultural centers, and stadiums are being built. And, of course, all the conditions have been created in Ufa for holding large-scale international forums and prestigious sporting tournaments. These successes are based on the traditions of respect and mutual understanding between people of different nationalities, religions, and cultures, Ufa residents' initiative and hard work, and their ability to set high goals and achieve results.
I am confident that your love for your hometown and a sincere desire to contribute to its prosperity will continue to help you implement your plans for the benefit of Bashkortostan and all of Russia."
