No online voting for elections in Bashkiria this fall

Azat Galimkhanov, chairman of the region’s Central Election Commission, said at a press conference at the Bashinform agency that remote electronic voting (REV) will not be allowed in Bashkiria for the upcoming elections on September 6, 7, and 8, 2024.

“There are no plans for electronic voting in these elections. Over time, yes, of course. The position of the Central Election Commission of Russia, considering digitalization, is to involve as many subjects as possible in the REV system. After some time, all subjects will move on. About 30 subjects will use REV on a single voting day in the fall. We haven’t yet,” Azat Galimkhanov told reporters.

Meanwhile, in Bashkiria, the “Mobile Voter” mechanism will operate in the upcoming elections in September.

According to Marina Dolmatova, Secretary of the Central Election Commission of Bashkiria, from July 22, 2024, a voter who cannot be at his polling station on voting day will traditionally be able to apply to government services through the MFC to any territorial election commission. This time, only those in the territory of Bashkiria will be able to use the “Mobile Voter” program in the upcoming autumn elections.
