Vladimir Putin proposed Andrei Belousov for Minister of Defense

Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed the candidacy of Andrei Belousov for the post of Minister of Defense, which was previously held by Sergei Shoigu. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov explained, "It is very important to integrate the economy of the power bloc into the country’s economy so that it corresponds to the dynamics of the current moment.” 65-year-old Belousov at various times held the positions of assistant to the head of state Vladimir Putin on economic issues, Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, director of the Department of Economics and Finance of the Government of the Russian Federation, general director of the Center for Macroeconomic Analysis and Short-Term Forecasting.

Dmitry Peskov said Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov will continue to serve in this post; no changes are planned yet.

Despite the proposed appointment of Andrei Belousov as the head of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the military component of the department will remain unchanged. This assurance comes from Dmitry Peskov, the President's Press Secretary, who stated that the military aspect has always been under the purview of the Chief of the General Staff, Valery Gerasimov. Gerasimov will continue his duties, and no alterations are currently underway.
