The government of the Russian Federation resigned after the inauguration of the President.
“According to Article 35 of the Federal Constitutional Law “On the Government of the Russian Federation,” the decision on the resignation by the government of the Russian Federation of its powers to the newly elected President of Russia is formalized by government order on the day the President of the Russian Federation takes office,” the Russian Cabinet of Ministers said in a statement.
The press service explained that “by Article 116 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, such a decision was formalized by a signed decree.”
The cabinet headed by Mikhail Mishustin worked for just over four years.
After the resignation of powers, the Russian Federation's government, on behalf of the President, continues to perform its duties until the formation of a new cabinet of ministers. This is determined by Article 117 of the country's Basic Law.
