Russia tightens penalties for treason
Russia has introduced the maximum possible sentence for committing high treason. The deputies of the State Duma adopted the corresponding bill.
We are discussing espionage, issuing state secret information to foreigners, and going to the enemy's side. If earlier for these crimes, citizens were threatened with a prison term of up to 20 years with a fine, and now violators can go to jail for life.
It is also planned to change the punishment for terrorists and saboteurs - it is expected that the maximum term of stay in places of detention for committing intimidating acts that created a threat of death to people and were aimed at destabilizing the situation in the country will be increased from 15 to 20 years in prison.
The minimum threshold for punishment for recruitment and involvement in terrorism has also increased from 5 to 7 years.
Earlier, a resident of Ufa was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Bashkiria for promoting extremist activities, Bashinform News Agency reported.
