"Online voting gives more objective results" - Parliament of Bashkiria Chairman

This year, the primaries of the United Russia party in the republic will be held only online for the first time. As Konstantin Tolkachev, Chairman of the State Assembly - the Kurultai of the Republic, said at a meeting with journalists at the Bashinform News Agency, before the coronavirus pandemic, the preliminary voting procedure was always held in person. Then they began to use a hybrid system: face-to-face and online voting. This year, for the first time, the preliminary elections in Bashkiria were decided to be held exclusively in electronic form. In-person, primaries will be held only in new regions of Russia.

“Online voting gives more objective results. Using subjective factors for this or that candidate to pass is impossible. It also allows a much larger number of people to participate in the pre-selection of candidates who will represent the party in the primary elections,” said the regional parliament speaker.

As Bashinform News Agency wrote earlier, candidates are being nominated in Bashkiria until April 27 to participate in the preliminary elections to the State Assembly. Voting will be held electronically from May 22 to May 28. At the moment, applications of 712 candidates have been registered.
