Laws package for new regions adopted by Russian State Duma

The State Duma, on February 14, adopted federal laws on integrating the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye, and Kherson regions into Russian legislation in education, healthcare, and social protection. Residents of the new areas will receive pensions, payments for children, other social benefits and benefits, free medical care, and education by Russian laws, the press service of the State Duma explained. Social support measures should start working from March 1.

Social bills define the features associated with the subsistence level in new regions, the payment of pensions, sick leave, benefits for pregnancy and childbirth and child care, and support for veterans, the disabled, and other categories of citizens.

From the moment the law comes into force, schoolchildren will be able to receive hot meals, free textbooks, students - academic and social scholarships, and travel benefits.

The laws also deal with the recognition of education, academic degrees, and titles previously received by residents of four new constituent entities of the Russian Federation and with the specifics of licensing and accreditation of educational organizations.

The law defines transitional periods for organizing the work of educational institutions of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye, and Kherson regions by Russian law. Until September 1, 2024, all teachers from the new subjects of the Russian Federation will be exempted from certification so that integration occurs in stages.
