Radiy Khabirov launched DeafSkills Professional Championship

II National Championship of professional skills among people with hearing impairment "DeafSkills" opened in Ufa. The Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov took part in the solemn ceremony.

“We are pleased to host the second championship of professional skills, and today I welcome more than 350 participants from 45 regions of our country. Today at our championship there are representatives of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. We are glad to see you, dear friends! Looking at all of you, we become optimists. You are strong and courageous people striving for professional improvement and integration into society. This is what the championship does. Every year the number of competencies is growing, this year there are already more than 30 of them. I hope that during the days of the championship you will fall in love with Bashkortostan, feel the warmth of its inhabitants, and the competitions will be held in a comfortable and convenient environment for you. I wish each of you success and victory. There are no losers in competitions of this kind,” Radiy Khabirov said.

II national championship of professional skills among people with hearing impairment "DeafSkills" will be held at the sites of Ufa colleges and VDNKh-EXPO. More than 150 experts will evaluate the skills of the participants. 50 people have been trained in sign language and more than 100 volunteers have been involved to ensure the accessibility of the championship.

Today, 150,000 people with hearing impairments live in Russia, of which more than 5,000 live in Bashkortostan.

Stanislav Ivanov, President of the All-Russian Society of the Deaf, and a member of the Council of the World Federation of the Deaf noted that they all need successful socialization, including professional recognition.

“I am happy to be in Ufa with you. Our movement covers the whole world. 222 participants took part in our first championship. This year there are already 350 of them, and every year there will be more. During the year we worked with the government of Bashkortostan, ministries, and departments to hold a real labor holiday in Ufa. I want you to demonstrate your skills here. We must show the whole world that the deaf can do anything, let's make the world stronger with our own hands. There are no losers here, you are all winners,” Stanislav Ivanov said.

In the next two days, the championship participants will compete in 34 competencies. Among them: are jewelry and floristry, visage and stylistics, robotics and web design, painting and carpentry, tourism, and much more.

The International Association for Professional Skill Competitions for the Deaf People was established in December 2015 by a constituent assembly with the participation of public organizations of the deaf in Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Moldova, and the Netherlands. To date, representatives from more than 20 countries have joined the DeafSkills movement.

The initiator of the creation of the movement and the elected president of the DeafSkills association is Stanislav Ivanov, a member of the board of the World Federation of the Deaf, and president of the All-Russian Society of the Deaf.

The main goals of the international DeafSkills championships are: to increase the desire of the deaf for professional independence and improve their professional skills, the creation of innovative methods and educational programs for vocational education, the international exchange of best practices in the field of education, and employ of people with hearing impairments. The first national championship was held last year in Kazan.
