Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing independence of Kherson and Zaporozhye regions

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the Kherson and Zaporozhe regions. The documents were published on the official Internet portal of legal information in Russia.

The text of the documents states that the state sovereignty and independence of these territories are recognized by the generally recognized principles and regulations of international law and the right to self-determination of peoples enshrined in the UN Charter.

The people of the Kherson and Zaporozhe regions exercised this right during the referendums held on September 27 this year.

Decrees of the President of Russia, dated September 29, 2022, come into force from the date of signing.
