

On the evening of August 30, after a severe and prolonged illness, the former general secretary of the CPSU Central Committee and the first president of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev, died. It is reported by TASS.
Mikhail Gorbachev was born on March 2, 1931, in the village of Privolnoye, Stavropol Territory. In 1955 he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Law of Moscow State University, since 1971 he has been a member of the Central Committee.
As Secretary General, and then the Head of the Soviet Union, he became the initiator and ideologist of "Perestroika". In 1990 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
After completing his political career, he was engaged in social and literary activities.
Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences on the death of Mikhail Gorbachev.
