LPR intends to hold referendum on joining Russia

A referendum may be held on the entry of the republic into Russia in the Luhansk People's Republic. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the statement of the head of the LPR Leonid Pasechnik.

“I think that in the near future a referendum will be held in the republic, at which the people will exercise their absolute constitutional right and express their opinion on joining the Russian Federation,” Pasechnik said at a meeting with foreign journalists.

According to Russian Senator Andrey Klishas, ​​the DPR and LPR have the right to decide on joining Russia "in accordance with their constitutions."

In mid-February, the leaders of the Donbas republics asked Russia to recognize their independence. On February 21, Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing them.

Three days later, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine. Vladimir Putin called its goal "the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years." For this, in his opinion, it is necessary to carry out the "demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine."
