December 8 in Minsk, the Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov visited the National Library of Belarus. This is one of the largest socio-cultural centers and the primary book depository of the country, which contains about 20 percent of the fund - more than 10 million copies of books.
During the visit, Radiy Khabirov got acquainted with information resources, visited the hall of musical and audiovisual documents, the repository of handwritten, rare, and early printed books, and the conference hall and observation deck located on the 23rd floor.
The general director of the institution, Oksana Knizhnikova, spoke about the directions of the library's work and demonstrated a book handling system built using information technologies. There is also an Internet center and electronic delivery of documents for readers.
The Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan also visited the Book Museum. The thematic exposition presents manuscripts, early printed and rare editions. All of them are unique and rarely taken out of the repository.
Radiy Khabirov noted the modern format of the library's work. It includes various educational and leisure activities aimed at residents of all ages.
"We set similar tasks when designing the Eurasian Library in Ufa. By the 450th anniversary of the city, we plan to create a multifunctional center for young people and residents of the older generation, scientists and experts in various fields, as well as families with children. To this end, representatives of our republic are studying the experience of the best libraries in Russia and foreign countries," the Head of Bashkortostan emphasized.
