Alexander Lukashenko to Radiy Khabirov: we can do more and better together

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko sees an opportunity to restore the pre-crisis trade turnover with Bashkortostan. Alexander Lukashenko announced this at a meeting with the Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov on December 7.

Alexander Lukashenko drew attention to the similarity of the region and population with Belarus, having stressed that Belarus's interest in this region of Russia is pragmatic due to the significant volumes of mutual trade.

According to him, for nine months of 2021, the trade turnover amounted to $280 million and decreased by 16% compared to the same period in 2020. "Although we have about 6% growth in our exports to the region, the balance is still about $60 million. Therefore, we have something to work on, and your visit to Belarus will contribute to leveling the trade turnover between Bashkortostan and Belarus," Alexander Lukashenko is convinced.

The President proposed to discuss reserves that can be used to enhance cooperation in trade and outline priority areas for the near future.

"Our target is quite obvious: we need to restore trade turnover to $ 700 million (as in 2018). I am sure that if we work well, we can easily achieve a billion dollars in trade turnover. We are ready for this."

According to Lukashenko, given the rich resource base of Bashkortostan and the industrial potential of our country, special attention should be paid to increasing the supply of engineering products. Here Belarus is ready to offer the most modern automotive, agricultural, road construction, and utility machinery of the leading Belarusian enterprises - MAZ, MTZ, Gomselmash, Amkodor, BELAZ, as well as lift equipment from Mogilevliftmash.

"Belarus is also ready to offer modern technologies and equipment for water purification, water treatment, and wastewater disposal, equipment, and technologies for a full cycle of sorting and processing of solid municipal waste. I know that it is quite a big problem in Russia too. We are successfully working with other Russian regions in this area," Alexander Lukashenko continued. In addition, he said that humanitarian and informational spheres, interaction in education, science, and culture should be paid attention to.

In turn, the Head of Bashkortostan said: "We have arrived today, and we definitely understand that there is still tremendous unrealized potential for our common development and cooperation. We are not afraid of COVID, sanctions. We want to work with you so that the well-being of the residents of both Belarus and Bashkortostan increases, and we have mutually beneficial joint projects".

"When we arrived, we were greeted here as a family, very close, good friends. Moreover, I am not afraid to say that the people of Bashkortostan and the people of Belarus are, in fact, fraternal peoples. We have a very long common history, common ancestors. Together we repulsed the onslaught of enemies, and a lot connects us," Radiy Khabirov added.
