In Bashkiria, the Eurasian Climate Consortium has been created, developing, and implementing a program to create and operate a carbon testing ground for participation in a pilot project of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia.
"The key areas of the consortium's activities are joint scientific, educational events and support for research infrastructure in the field of decarbonization, the introduction of carbon balance control technologies into production," the press service of the Head of Bashkiria reported and added that a roadmap, a financial plan ensuring the program for the creation and operation of a carbonic polygon in the region for 2021-2022.
As the Bashinform News Agency reported in May, Bashkiria may be included in a pilot project to create carbon polygons.
Carbon fiber landfills are being created in the country by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Such polygons are territories with a unique ecosystem. Here scientists develop methods for measuring and controlling gases, including emissions from industrial plants, that harm the environment and climate.
As the Head of the Republic emphasized, now all efforts aim to ensure that Bashkiria replenishes the number of pilot regions.
Radiy Khabirov argued for this decision by the significant scientific potential available in Bashkiria, "including within the framework of the activities of the Eurasian Research and Educational Center," as well as by the presence of large industrial enterprises.
As the Chief of Staff of the Head of Bashkiria, Alexander Sidyakin, stressed, the topic of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the coming years would become a backbone for all countries.
According to the Head of Bashkiria, industrial enterprises and the agro-industrial complex should be involved in the work of the Eurasian Climate Consortium.
The Bashkir State Agrarian University is ready to act as the flagship of this work. Rector of this university, Ildar Gabitov, told reporters about it.
As experts emphasize, reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere is significant for the enterprises of the petrochemical and fuel and energy complex of Bashkiria, which are large exporters.
Recall that from 2024 the European Union intends to introduce protective duties on importing products with a high carbon footprint.
Additional taxes can hit hard on the economies of enterprises willing to work together with research and educational organizations to reduce emissions. The solution of this task will be facilitated, among other things, by the creation of carbon polygons in the regions, experts explain.
