On May 20, at the House of the Republic, the Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Austrian Republic to Russia Johannes Aigner.
The parties discussed the prospects for strengthening cooperation in the economy, humanitarian and social spheres. The Head of Bashkortostan noted the successful work of the branches of Austrian enterprises located in the region and the high potential for implementing joint investment projects.
"We consider Austria as one of our leading partners. Large enterprises of Austrian business operate here, and Bashkortostan is ready to provide all the necessary support to these industries," Radiy Khabirov stated.
Thus, in the Abzelilovsky district, the second in Russia plant for the production of white cement by the Cemix company (an enterprise of the Lasselsberger group) is to be launched. It is planned that it will start operating in August 2021 and will be able to produce up to 700 tons of products per day.
The Inman plant, which is part of the Austrian concern Palfinger, is successfully developing and produces cranes in Ishimbay. It carries out, among other things, export supplies to the European market.
"Seeing how efficiently Austrian enterprises work, we understand that there are serious prospects for increasing our trade turnover," Radiy Khabirov said. "The coronavirus pandemic has not yet allowed us to realize the potential for developing relationships fully. However, after lifting coronavirus restrictions and opening borders between countries, we expect a large business mission from Austria to visit our republic. "
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria to Russia Johannes Aigner confirmed the high interest of businessmen and representatives of the humanitarian sphere in visiting Bashkortostan. An Austrian delegation plans to come to our republic with a business mission in 2021.
"This is my first visit to your republic, and I am very impressed by the rich history and culture of Bashkortostan," Johannes Aigner stated. "I also examined the educational environment and industry of the region. These are excellent areas for strengthening cooperation."
Radiy Khabirov offered the Austrian delegation to study in detail the region's investment potential and invited foreign guests to visit the World Folkloriada, which would be held in Bashkortostan in early July 2021.
At the end of 2020, Bashkortostan's foreign trade turnover with Austria amounted to $7.8 million, including exports - $1.5 million, imports - $6.3 million. It takes 45th place in terms of turnover among 122 countries - trade partners of the Republic of Austria.
The structure of imports is dominated by machinery and equipment (54 percent) and lifting equipment, metals, and metal products (39 percent). Exports are 99.5 percent represented by engineering products.
Eleven legal entities with capital from Austria are registered in Bashkortostan. These companies operate in agriculture, mining, ceramics and cement, machinery and equipment, construction, and trade. Since June 2019, a representative office of the Republic of Bashkortostan in Austria has been operating in Vienna.
