Radiy Khabirov: Kushtau is not issue of law, its stance of people

The Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov met with activists and defenders of Mount Kushtau.

According to Radiy Khabirov, the decisions to exploit the mountain were absolutely legal, and the Bashkir Soda Company had all the necessary permissions, but "it is not an issue of law, but a stance of people."

On Sunday, the Head of the Republic arrived at the Mount Kushtau to meet with eco-activists opposing the mountain development by the Bashkir Soda Company. The head of the region managed to agree with all parties to the conflict to end the clashes and leave the mountain.

“The Bashkir Soda Company leaves the mountain, and so do you. You have my word that no one will enter the mountain until some compromise solution on Kushtau is found", he said.

The Head of the Region supported the proposal to create a Public Council for Sterlitamak Mounts and invited the leaders of eco-activists to the meeting. The first meeting was supposed to take place on Monday afternoon, but it was postponed. As Radiy Khabirov himself explained, they began to put unacceptable conditions on him regarding participation in the meeting of the «Bashkort» activists, an organization recognized as extremist.
