Radiy Khabirov spoke at Valdai Discussion Club

On October 1, in Sochi, the Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov took part in a special session “Russia and the Islamic World: Mutual Role and Mutual Influence”. The session was held as part of the 16th annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club. The speech of the head of the republic was devoted to the traditions of good neighborliness of various peoples and religions in the republic.

“I will try to prove that the Republic of Bashkortostan is a unique example of how peacefully different nationalities and faiths can live together”, the head of the region said.

He noted that about 67 percent of the 4 million residents in Bashkiria are Muslims. About 36 percent are Russians, almost 30 percent are Bashkirs, 24 percent are Tatars. Moreover, there are several other large ethnic groups, nationalities, in particular, the Chuvash and Mari, who are more than 100 thousand people in the republic.

According to Radiy Khabirov, in Bashkiria, nationalities, and faiths are so profoundly intertwined that Muslims celebrate Easter and Christmas, while Orthodox Christians celebrate Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr. Every third marriage in the republic is mixed, and such a situation is hard to find in other regions.

“With such short theses, arguments, I tried to show the intense penetration of cultures, religions, and nationalities into each other. We consider it as our most important wealth,” said Radiy Khabirov.

“Therefore, we are for not only respecting each other within the framework of the constitutional requirements but also taking the best from each other. At the same time, we preserve ourselves as Muslims or as Orthodoxes. This is the main greatness of our large country, ”said the Head of Bashkiria.

Finishing his speech, Radiy Khabirov invited club members to hold a meeting in our republic.
