Requirements for holding rallies are legally strengthened in Bashkortostan

In Bashkortostan, the requirements for holding rallies are toughened up. The republican law “On places for holding public events” was amended and approved.

The document indicates a list of places where meetings, public gatherings, and other public events are prohibited. These are “territories of sports, physical culture, scientific organizations, recreation organizations, including children's health camps”, lands of nature conservation, historical and cultural purposes, lands of health-improving places and resorts, especially valuable lands, territories of avenues, gardens, parks, squares”.

Protest activities are also prohibited in the territories “unsuitable for holding meetings of citizens”. The government of the republic will specifically establish the criteria for these places.

The law was published on the official legal information website on June 28, 2019; it comes into effect in ten days after publication.
