Vladimir Putin instructed to make drivers more disciplined and not just fine them

Yesterday Russian President Vladimir Putin gave several instructions at a meeting of the State Council on the development of the national motorway system and road safety in the Kremlin.

In particular, the head of state tasked each region of the country to develop programs to bring the regional roads to a standard state, provide road lighting outside the agglomerations, strengthen control over freight vehicles movement, deal with illegal passenger traffic.

Vladimir Putin paid special attention to installing CCTV cameras on the roads. According to the President, the purpose of their installation is, first of all, to make drivers more disciplined. “These cameras, especially on accident-prone road sections, should not be concealed and hidden. Instead of making drivers more disciplined, you use the cameras just to fine them.”

In Russia, the “Safe and High-Quality Roads” national project has been operating since 2019. The document is intended for six years - until 2024. It sets out the main indicators that the regions should achieve by the specified time.
