Radiy Khabirov will run for head of region as "United Russia" candidate

Acting Head of Bashkortostan, Radiy Khabirov will run for the head of the region as the "United Russia" party candidate in September. This is reported by Vedomosti. In June 2008, Bashkir President Murtaza Rakhimov dismissed Khabirov as head of his administration. The media wrote that he was afraid of the Kremlin’s choice of Khabirov as his successor. After that, during July-September, Khabirov was twice excluded by the regional office, but reinstated by the highest bureau of the party.

At the same time, most of Radiy Khabirov’s colleagues from the newly appointed governors mainly declared their desire to become self-nominated candidates. “I have colleagues who propose to distance themselves from United Russia. But I am different. I am a member of this party and am proud of it. Although I am a unique member of this party: I was excluded from it twice and reinstated twice. How can I possibly not love my party?”, says the Acting Head of Bashkiria. According to him, the party should be considered the most important political tool.

A political analyst Abbas Gallyamov considered this decision as the correct one. “The republic respects strength, stubbornness, and principles, but not opportunistic maneuvering. Refusing to follow the recent political fashion, Khabirov demonstrates the very qualities that local voters and local elites like”, the political scientist said.

Political and technological significance of party membership and non- party membership of governors is often exaggerated, political analyst Mikhail Vinogradov believed. “The ability of a candidate to produce anti-rating, as well as a composition of competitors, plays a much more important role. It may be more significant to show proximity to power in the republic. Outside of Ufa, there is no need to complicate the voters' worldview with self-nominated candidates - the region has not been spoiled by political competition since 2003. It is more important to show the strength of political positions than to build artificial combinations with non-party membership”, Vinogradov shared his opinion.
