Bill providing fines for false news is submitted to State Duma

UFA, 12 December 2018. /Bashinform News Agency/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/. A package of bills that prohibits publication of inaccurate information in the media and on the Internet that creates a threat to the lives of citizens or violent civil unrest is submitted to the State Duma.

The document was prepared by the head of the Federation Council’s Committee for Legislation, Andrey Klishas, in collaboration with other parliamentarians.

The first bill amends the laws “On Mass Media” and “On Information”. It allows blocking false news published on the Internet.

The second document complements the Code of Administrative Offenses. Fines of 3-5 thousand rubles are imposed on citizens and from 400 thousand to a million rubles on companies for the dissemination of inaccurate information in the media or on the Internet.
