Rustem Khamitov announced his early resignation

UFA, 12 October 2018. /Bashinform News Agency/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/. The Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov announced an early resignation of his powers addressing to the citizens of the republic.

“Dear residents of our republic! Dear colleagues! My work as the Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan is coming to an end. I have addressed to the President of the Russian Federation with a request to accept my resignation,” the statement says. “This is my personal and deliberate decision in every way. The reason is the following: I do not plan to participate in the elections of the Head of the Republic in 2019, although I have this opportunity according to the law. I am deeply convinced that regional leaders at a mature age should make decisions on termination of their activities in a timely manner and should resign with dignity, not under pressure from the higher levels or from below or due to extraordinary circumstances, but after careful consideration and without conflicts”, Rustem Khamitov stated.

Thank you for the support that I have felt all eight years of my work. I can say that the interests of the residents have always been a top priority for me. I worked for people, for you, dear residents of the republic. I worked honestly and never allowed myself to go beyond the law.

Any major leader is haunted by rumors and sometimes fake news. That is the way the world works, and nothing can be done about it. But in my activity, I was guided solely by decency, honesty and responsibility.

I sincerely respect every inhabitant of the republic, with their opinions and rights. This is my working principle. I have met many of you in person or at meetings, forums, and holidays. I have always enjoyed seeing you, listening to you and communicating with you. I have always appreciated your kind words and desire to help, your responsiveness and openness.

Upon completion of this work, I will also be open to meetings, conversations and contacts. If you need my opinions or advice, I will be happy to share them. If you need meetings, invite me to come.

I am sure that I do the right thing. Bashkortostan is a wonderful republic. And generally speaking, I am happy that I had an opportunity to put in my labor for the benefit of our region.
