Bashkortostan Parliament to consider draft law on public observation during elections

Deputies of the Republican State Assembly intend to consider a draft law “On Amendments to the Code of the Republic of Bashkortostan on Elections” at the next plenary meeting. In case of its adoption, the Public Chamber of the Republic will receive the right to appoint election observers, the press service of the regional parliament reports.

“The draft law proposes to provide for the right of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation and the Public Chamber of the Republic of Bashkortostan to appoint observers during the elections to the state authorities in the republics and local governments. This regulation will contribute to the improvement of electoral legislation based on the principles of transparency and publicity, increase the openness of elections, and reduce the number of possible irregularities during their conducting”, the Speaker of the State Assembly of Bashkiria Konstantin Tolkachev expressed his opinion on the new draft law.

He also noted that the relevant legislation of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation and the public chambers of the regions was already enshrined in the federal legislation.
