State Duma unanimously approved Vladimir Putin's amendments to pension reform

UFA, 26 September 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Galina Bakhshieva/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/.The State Duma deputies unanimously approved the amendments of Russian President Vladimir Putin, introduced to the second reading of the draft on changes to the pension legislation, RIA Novosti reported.
The deputies also approved the amendments made by the United Russia party. Some of them are related to a funded pension, which is proposed to be paid at the current retirement age: from 55 years for women and from 60 for men. Another clarification is related to the indexation of pensions to non-working pensioners.
In July, the State Duma adopted in the first reading a government bill, which assumed a gradual increase in the retirement age to 65 years for men and up to 63 years for women. At the end of August, Vladimir Putin proposed a number of measures to maximally mitigate the decisions made.
Thus, the age of retirement for women should be 60 years instead of 63. Also, mothers with many children will be able to retire early, and the conditions for assigning pensions for indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North will remain in force.
In addition, the unemployment benefit for people of pre-retirement age will be increased, and responsibility for dismissal before the pension is introduced.
At present, the retirement age is 60 for men and 55 for women, it was established tens of years ago.
The need for amendments is explained by the increased life expectancy and the inability to provide a decent pension in conditions when the number of workers in the country is decreasing, and the number of pensioners, on the contrary, is growing. The authorities are guided by the experience of most developed countries, where the retirement age is 60-65 years.
