Vladimir Putin will make statement on pension reform on Wednesday

UFA, 28 August 2018. /Bashinform News Agency/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/. Vladimir Putin said that he would announce his position on pension changes on Wednesday, RIA Novosti reported.

"In the near future, maybe tomorrow, I will formulate my attitude in detail and deliver a corresponding statement", he said in Omsk today at a meeting with members of the Government.

On July 19, the State Duma adopted in the first reading a government bill on amendments to the pension legislation. It involves raising the retirement age to 65 years for men and to 63 years for women.

The changes are planned to be implemented in phases since 2019. The Lower House approved the main provisions of the document. Until September 24, amendments will be made to it, it will be considered in the second and third readings and in the Federation Council.

The Government explained that due to these measures the pensions of non-working pensioners in 2019 would grow by one thousand rubles. By 2024, it is expected that the payment will be about 20 thousand rubles a month - this corresponds to an increase of about 35% compared to the level of 2018.

The current retirement age was established in 1956 when 3.7 working persons were accounted for one pensioner, and the life expectancy was 67 years. Now for every pensioner, there are only two working persons, and the average life expectancy has grown to 73-74 years, the president explained.

There is still no final solution, we need to consider all opinions, Putin summed up.
