Liliya Gumerova takes part in Inter-Parliamentary Union 138th Assembly in Geneva

UFA, 26 March 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Alfiya Agliullina/. The First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee for Science, Education and Culture, Senator from Bashkiria Liliya Gumerova participates in the 138th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva.
It is planned that the first vice-speaker of the chamber will deliver a report at a plenary session of the IPU Assembly, take part in a meeting of the Governing Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and hold a number of working meetings with parliamentarians of foreign countries.
The main theme of the 138th Assembly: "Strengthening the global regime for migrants and refugees: the need for evidence-based policy solutions in connection with adoption of the Global Compact on Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration", in conjunction with the adoption of a new Global Compact under the auspices of the United Nations in 2018. A resolution on this topic is planned for adoption at the next 139th Assembly of the IPU in October 2018.
At the 138th IPU Assembly, special attention will be paid to the prospects for implementing the decisions taken during the previous session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in St. Petersburg in October 2017.
In addition, the agenda includes discussion of a proposal of the Russian delegation to consolidate in the resolution of the Inter-Parliamentary Union the initiative of the Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko to hold the IPU jointly with the UN World Conference on Interreligious and Interethnic Dialogue.
Following the discussions at the 138th IPU Assembly, it is planned to adopt two resolutions: "sustaining peace as a vehicle for achieving sustainable development" and "engaging the private sector in the development of renewable energy", as well as a resolution on an emergency agenda item.
During the Assembly meetings of IPU committees, geopolitical groups, Association of General Secretaries of Parliaments will be held. There will be a Forum of Young MPs and a Forum of Women Parliamentarians. It is planned to elect a new chairman of the Bureau of the Forum of Women Parliamentarians.
A total of 740 delegates from 137 parliaments of the world, 65 chairmen of parliaments take part in the Assembly. At present, the Inter-Parliamentary Union includes 178 parliaments and 12 interparliamentary assemblies as associate members of the IPU.
