Vladimir Putin set goal to enter 80-plus years countries in life expectancy by end of next decade

UFA, 2 March 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Galiya Nabieva/. The head of state set a goal to increase life expectancy at a fundamentally new level.

“By the end of the next decade, Russia must confidently join the club of countries having a life expectancy of 80-plus years, which includes Japan, France and Germany”, said Vladimir Putin delivering his Address to the Federal Assembly.

In this context the head of state underlined that life expectancy levels for people living a healthy, active and full life, not hampered by illness, should show outstripping growth rate.

“I am confident that we can achieve this goal, considering the positive trends of the previous years. For this purpose, the whole of Russia will have to make a quantum leap in its development, so that the life of every person is transformed”, the President expressed confidence.

Vladimir Putin noted that “It is our moral duty to provide all-round support to members of the older generation, who have made a tremendous contribution to our national development. Senior citizens should have worthy conditions for a long, active and healthy life. Most importantly, we must raise pensions and index them regularly, over inflation rates. We will also strive for reducing a gap between the size of pensions and pre-retirement wages. And, of course, we must raise the quality of healthcare and social support for senior citizens and help people who are alone and those facing problems in life.”

Such work has been conducted for a number of years in Bashkiria. In particular, the republican targeted program for the development of social tourism is successfully implemented in the region. The state program for the development of domestic and inbound tourism in the republic until 2023 is intended to address these problems. The "Social tourism" subprogram will make it possible to ensure the availability of tourist services for such categories of citizens as pensioners, disabled people and orphanage children.
