Konstantin Tolkachev will assess integrity of European electoral processes in Strasbourg

UFA, 12 February 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Galiya Nabieva/. The Speaker of the Bashkir Parliament Konstantin Tolkachev went to Strasbourg, where he would take part in the meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe in the Palais de l'Europe. Legislators will consider observance of human rights at the local and regional level, the local democracy level in Europe, conformance with the European Charter of Local Self-Government in the member states of the Council of Europe, analyze the results of monitoring for municipal elections in Georgia and Macedonia last autumn.
"The observance of human rights, state of democracy and ensuring transparency and integrity of electoral processes in the European states will be the key topic of the meeting," commented on Konstantin Tolkachev. "The issue is planned to be discussed on the example of such countries as Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, San Marino, Latvia, Moldova, Lithuania, Macedonia, Georgia. As you can see, the Western European countries and the post-Soviet space are represented quite extensively in this list. Our task is to evaluate the political processes there, to adopt positive experience, and in case of negative trends, to identify their causes and propose measures to stabilize the situation", the parliamentarian said.
Konstantin Tolkachev also noted that the state of affairs in Ukraine would be discussed at a meeting of the Committee.
Members of the Committee will also approve their work plan for 2018-2019. It proposes to include reports on the state of democracy in a number of European countries, missions to monitor municipal and regional elections in European states, monitoring visits to assess the work of democratic institutes in 2018 in Albania, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Lithuania, Poland, Moldova, Russia, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine, and in 2019 in Armenia, Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Macedonia, Great Britain.
