Federation Council Committee for Science, Education and Culture supported law clarifying provisions on resale royalty right

The First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee for Science, Education and Culture, Senator Liliya Gumerova of Bashkortostan, held a meeting during which the parliamentarians recommended the House to approve the Federal Law "On Amending Article 1293 Part Four of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation".

Liliya Gumerova noted that the adoption of the law would help to increase the level of legal protection for art creators works.

The document is aimed at improving the legislation in the field of copyright. Adoption of the law will expand the scope of the resale royalty right - the right of the author of the original fine art or manuscript to receive a royalty for resale of his work in which a legal entity or a sole trader (auction house, fine arts gallery, art salon, store) participate not only as an intermediary, but as a seller or buyer. The law also obliges a legal person or a sole trader to provide relevant information to the author or organization on the management of rights on a collective basis that provides his interests.
