Liliya Gumerova: "Development of territorial brands is an important source of regional budgets replenishment"

The First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee for Science, Education and Culture, the representative from the executive body of state power of Bashkortostan Liliya Gumerova held a meeting of the working group of the Intellectual Property Council under the Federation Council.

"In February 2017, within the framework of the 5th International Legal Forum, in conjunction with the Court of Intellectual Rights and Rospatent, a round table was held on the topic "Regional Brands: Experience, Challenges, Prospects", the Senator said.

Liliya Gumerova noted that Russian regions had a high potential for the availability of goods, unique due to their geographical location and traditions handed down from generation to generation: Bashkir Honey, Khokhloma, Gorodetsky Painting, and Tula Gingerbread.

According to her, "one of the mechanisms that contribute to the successful promotion of products in the market is use of such object of intellectual property as "appellation of origin".

She marked the necessity to work out the issue of amending the Civil Code in terms of improving the legal protection mechanism of "appellation of origin", as well as to add a new object - "geographical indication" to the list of protected objects of intellectual property.
