UFA, 27 October 2016. /Bashinform News Agency, Alexander Smirnov/. On October 26, the Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov met with the official delegation of Vietnam headed by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Russian Federation, Nguyen Thanh Sean. The sides discussed prospects of cooperation in the industrial, trade, economic, scientific and cultural spheres.
The Head of the Republic defined the leading sectors of our economy and stressed the need to increase the foreign trade turnover.
“Our relations with Vietnam business require intensification. To date, the turnover is quite small. Products were supplied to Vietnam only for the sum of $ 15 million. And we practically do not get, and do not buy anything from Vietnam. It is not right. We should increase the supply volumes. The have the potential for this,” said Rustem Khamitov.
“We will certainly contribute to the strengthening of relations of your republic with our provinces, because we see it as highly promising,” said Nguyen Thanh Sean. “There are so many possible areas. We can find the appropriate forms of cooperation between Vietnam and your republic.”
Rustem Khamitov said that the republic had prepared a draft agreement on cooperation with the province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, which could be signed early next year.
“We invite you to Vietnam to sign an agreement. This is one of our largest provinces. It is located in the southern Vietnam. A lot of the former Soviet oil industry employees work there”, said the ambassador.
The Head of Bashkortostan and the Ambassador of Vietnam also discussed issues of cooperation in the scientific, educational and humanitarian fields.
For the past five years the largest volume of foreign trade turnover between Bashkortostan and Vietnam was reached in 2015. It was $ 15.1 million, with the bulk of this amount accounted for exports.
In the export structure the main position is occupied by the traditional supply of synthetic rubber (99 percent of total exports). The main import positions are toys, optical readers, hats, clothing and leather bags.
24 enterprises created with participation of the Vietnamese capital operate in the territory of Bashkortostan and they are engaged in trade, catering, cargo transport, manufacture of paint and lacquers products, plastic products and textile products.
