Liliya Gumerova shared Russian experience in providing gender equality at IPU Assembly in Geneva

The Senator from Bashkortostan Liliya Gumerova takes part in the activities of the 135th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva (Switzerland). Women parliamentarians discussed and adopted a resolution on the women's freedom to participate fully, safely and unimpededly in political processes.

In her speech, Liliya Gumerova said that much work to achieve gender equality was done in the Russian Federation. According to Liliya Gumerova the Russian women are focused on full employment and career growth, while an important factor for them is a commitment to traditional family values, including giving birth to children and upbringing them.

As positive experience the Russian parliamentarian named one of the state social programs - construction of pre-school educational institutions.

As one of the key issues Liliya Gumerova mentioned activity on combining the efforts of all women in the world in matters of gender equality. The Senator reminded participants about Eurasian Women's Forum held in St. Petersburg in 2015, which was attended by over 700 delegates from 85 countries.

The Senator informed the meeting attendees of the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights about active preparations for the 2nd Eurasian Women's Forum in Russia and noted that the organizers would be happy to welcome guests in Russia to discuss important topical issues.

The Senator from Bashkortostan believes that such areas, as the IPU Assembly, Eurasian Women's Forum and other such formats based on a dialogue to promote peace and promoting conflict prevention through diplomacy are important.

Liliya Gumerova is a member of the Coordinating Committee of Women Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union from the Eurasian Geopolitical Group.
