Information security funding is made residually in VFD - Mikhail Babich

UFA, 15 June 2016. /Bashinform News Agency, Alexander Smirnov/. On June 14, in Cheboksary (Chuvash Republic) the Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov took part in a joint meeting of the Russian Federation Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev and the Plenipotentiary Envoy of the Russian President to the Volga Federal District (VFD) Mikhail Babich.

The meeting discussed information security measures when using the Internet by the governmental bodies.

Mikhail Babich underlined that every year in the district a steady increase in computer attacks was recorded. In 2015 their number was about 190 million. At the same time, more than 80 percent is accounted for information resources of public authorities. In addition, the envoy noted that the intensification of emerging risks and threats in the information space in the first place was associated with foreign technologies, information software products, usage by public sector employees of "cloud" servers, insufficient skills of specialists in the field of information security, and untimely developing information security systems and lack of funding for their creation.

In turn, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolay Patrushev, drew attention to the activation of the intelligence activities of special services and organizations of foreign states aimed at harming the interests of the Russian Federation in the information sphere. He also said that during the inspection numerous violations of rules and requirements for the information protection were revealed.

According to Mikhail Babich, the current situation requires development of additional set of information security measures. In particular, the envoy stressed the need to resolve the issue of development and adoption of the target program for transition to the domestic software of the activities of the Russian authorities. At the regional level, one of the key areas of work should be: information protection in the process of transfer of state and municipal information systems into single data centres (data centres, IT-parks) and enhancement of human resources pools.
