Bashkortostan and Saxony parliamentarians are planning to resume former cooperation

UFA, 2 June 2016. /Bashinform News Agency, Galiya Nabieva /. Possibilities to resume cooperation between Bashkortostan and Saxony in the framework of the agreements reached in 2002 were discussed today in Ufa. The Chairman of the State Assembly of Bashkortostan Konstantin Tolkachev has met with a member of the Saxon Landtag Jörg Kiesewetter. The official meeting was attended by deputies of the State Assembly, the members of the Public Chamber of Bashkortostan and the Secretary of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Representative Office in Ufa.

The regional parliament speaker told the guest about a socio-economic situation in Bashkortostan, pointed out that Germany was among the leading countries-investors in the republic.

"Before the introduction of EU economic sanctions against Russia 29 enterprises with participation of the capital from the Federal Republic of Germany were registered in the territory of the republic,” said Konstantin Tolkachev. “They have been working in the field of machinery and equipment, petroleum products, meat and by-products, thermal and acoustic insulation materials, in the areas of research and development".

Konstantin Tolkachev stated during the meeting that the State Assembly already had some experience of inter-parliamentary relations with the Landtag of the Free State of Saxony. It developed as part of the agreement on trade, economic, social and cultural relations, signed between the governments of Saxony and Bashkortostan in 1992.

In 2002 the regional parliament welcomed a delegation of the Landtag, according to the results of which a protocol of intent of cooperation was signed. In 2008, the return visit was made. Since then, the inter-parliamentary relations ceased.

The sides expressed hope to resume the relations between the parliaments of Bashkortostan and Saxony. The visit of the Landtag delegation to our republic in 2017 should facilitate it.
