Bashkiria took seventh place in rating of regions in foreign media

UFA, 18 May 2016. /Bashinform News Agency, Ksenia Kalinina/. Bashkortostan took the seventh place in the rating of regions in foreign media on the results of 2015. Our republic improved its figures compared with 2014 year by four positions, the press service of the Government RB reports.

The "Smyslographia" analytical agency and the Dow Jones company conducted a study of the perception of Russian regions in the English-language media.

Traditionally, sport, especially football, remains the leading driver of interest in the Russian regions. It accounts for an appreciable share of mentions in the information field of Bashkortostan, Tatarstan and the Sverdlovsk region.

Holding such status events, as the SCO and BRICS Summits attracted much attention to Bashkortostan. Information about them was distributed by English-language media. The BRICS Summit had an intense agenda - an agreement on the BRICS Bank, Russia and Pakistan agreements on helicopters, Russia and India agreements on nuclear fuel, talks between India and Iran.

The methodology developed by "Smyslographia" agency experts includes quantitative and qualitative study of mentions using materials of Factiva.com service in the Top 100 leading English-language media, including The Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones Newswire, The Economist, The Guardian, Washington Post. Total score assigned to each region, allows assessing the region both in number of its mentions and the share of favourable publications. Moscow was excluded from the overall rating.
