Rustem Khamitov: "Victory Day inspires to new great deeds for the benefit of our Fatherland"

UFA, 6 May 2016. /Bashinform News Agency, Alexander Smirnov/. On May 6, the Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov delivered a speech at the solemn meeting dedicated to the 71st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Rustem Khamitov spoke about our republic’s contribution to the defeat of fascist aggressors; he remembered names of heroes - natives of Bashkortostan. From 1939 to 1945, more than 700 thousand people were drafted in the ranks of the Armed Forces from our republic. The military units and formations created in the territory of Bashkiria participated in the battles of Moscow, Leningrad and Stalingrad, Kursk and Dnieper, Belarus and the Baltic States, in liberation of the peoples of Europe. More than 322 thousand people did not return from the battlefields. Participants of the meeting honoured their memory with a minute of silence.

“The national holiday of May 9 unites people of different generations, inspires grandchildren of soldiers of the Victory to the new great deeds for the benefit of our Fatherland”, underlined Rustem Khamitov. “Unfortunately, fewer and fewer veterans come in Victory Park to pay tribute to their fellow soldiers who fell in battles. Today there are 3131 veterans, 39,964 home front workers still in the ranks with us. Most of them are far beyond 90. It is important to hedge them round with care and attention.”

The Head of the Republic noted that all veterans were rendered comprehensive and targeted assistance. More than 18 thousand veterans underwent medical examinations, almost half of them - at home. This year it will be about 20 thousand people. People with disabilities, war veterans and their widows are being provided with housing. It is carried out repairs of apartments and houses, rendered assistance in improvement of housing and subsidiary personal plots.

At the end of his speech, Rustem Khamitov thanked the veterans for their military and labour feats.
