The dead pilot of Sukhoi Su-24 shot down on November 24 by a Turkish fighter jet in Syria was posthumously awarded the Hero of Russia title. The President signed a decree "On conferring state awards of the Russian Federation of the military men of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation".

"For heroism, courage and bravery shown during the performance of his military duty, the Lieutenant Colonel Oleg Peshkov was awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation (posthumously). For their courage, bravery and selflessness shown during the performance of military duty, Captain Konstantin Murahtin and sailor Alexander Pozynich (posthumously) were awarded the Order of Courage ", it is stated in the decree.

Answering journalists' questions in connection with the crash of the Russian military aircraft in Syria, Vladimir Putin said that the second pilot of Su-24 was rescued.
