Federation Council introduces daily monitoring of tuition fees in Russian universities

UFA, 10 February 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Galiya Nabieva/. Senators will take control of the situation with an increase in tuition fees in Russian universities, Liliya Gumerova, the First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture, the Senator from Bashkortostan said in an interview to "TOGETHER-RF" TV channel.

In accordance with the legislation the Russian higher education institutions are not allowed to change the tuition fee throughout the training period, except for the rate of inflation.

Liliya Gumerova confirmed that at three universities cases of increase in tuition fees by 30-35 percent were revealed.

The Senator stressed that the supervisory authorities and the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia were made aware and involved in the solution of the situation.

“The Federation Council will strictly monitor tuition fees on a daily basis and respond accordingly,” the member of the upper house of the Federation Council assured.

Liliya Gumerova urged fellow senators to hold meetings in the regions, to convene the Councils of Rectors and prevent unjustified fees increase.
